I am looking around for the best scanner to use to scan family photos for genealogy purposes. That way I can pass the disk around to my siblings and they can print out what they want from their own personal computers. I ran across a scanner that talks about scanning negatives and I’m curious as to why a scanner would scan negatives. What do you do with scanned negatives?

I’m trying to scan color negatives into the computer. The problem is the negative holder doesn’t allow me to scan the emulsion of the film. Is there anyway I can scan the negative without a holder, so that I can get the emulsion as well?

My friend has a negative of her gran’s grandparents. It’s about 3 by 2 inches. Would it be safe for the negative to scan it?
Because it’s so old, she’s afraid something might happen to it. I wanted to check before scanning it just in case.

I have a ton of 35mm slides and negatives that I would like to scan into digital format. I’ve seen a number of options out there, from digital camera attachments to flatbed scanners to dedicated fil scanners. I don’t want to spend a whole lot of money, but I’d like to get decent results.
